Chinese Piano Music for Children

We are excited to introduce the upcoming publication of "Chinese Piano Works for Children" in two volumes.‍

These books introduce young New Zealand pianists to piano music composed by Chinese musicians. In collaboration with Shanghai Music Publishing House, this is the first time this collection has been published outside of China. This updated English edition is organized by difficulty level from grade one to grade eight level (ABRSM and Trinity equivalent), each piece labelled with suggested grade levels so that students and teachers can readily select music appropriate for their level. In addition, each piece focuses on specific musical and technical issues that young piano students often encounter, providing support for students’ current musical development in an easily accessible format.

The collection presents an exciting exploration both of original compositions as well as arrangements of popular Chinese folksongs, introducing piano students to aspects of Chinese culture through music. The compositions contained in these books were originally collected by Professor Dan Zhaoyi, one of the foremost piano pedagogues in China, who brought together a beautiful selection of music for young piano students, composed, and arranged by composers and piano pedagogues in China. The books have been used by piano teachers and students all over China for over a decade and have been reprinted over 10 time since they were published.

The publication will be available for purchase in late 2022. More information to come soon...
